Profil Wilayah
The City of Samarinda was formed and established on January 21 1960, based on Emergency Law no. 3 of 1953, State Gazette no. 97 of 1953 concerning the Establishment of Level II districts/municipalities in East Kalimantan.
Originally Kodya Dati II Samarinda was divided into 3 sub-districts, namely Samarinda Ulu, Samarinda Ilir and Samarinda Seberang Districts. Then with the Decree of the Governor of the Level I Regional Head of East Kalimantan Province No. 18/SK/TH-Pem/1969 and SK no. 55/TH-Pem/SK/1969, starting from March 1 1969, the administrative area of Kodya Dati II Samarinda was increased by 4 sub-districts, namely Palaran, Sanga-Sanga, MuaraJawa and Samboja sub-districts (area of around 2,727 km²).
Currently, the division of sub-districts in Samarinda does not include Sanga-Sanga, Muara Jawa and Samboja, all three of which are included in Kutai Kartanegara Regency. After PP no. 38 In 1996, the administrative area of Kodya Dati II Samarinda experienced expansion, originally consisting of 4 sub-districts into 6 sub-districts, namely:
1. Sungai Kunjang District
2. Samarinda Ulu District
3. North Samarinda District
4. Samarinda Ilir District
5. Samarinda Seberang District
6. Palaran District
• The expansion of sub-districts was carried out again in line with rapid population growth and increasingly improved community services. The sub-districts in Samarinda, which originally numbered 6, have now been expanded into 10 sub-districts based on Regional Regulation Number 02 of 2010. The 4 sub-districts resulting from this expansion include:
1. Samarinda City District
2. Loa Janan Ilir District
3. Welcome District
4. Sungai Pinang District
The inauguration of the sub-district was held on December 28 2010. So, administratively Samarinda City is divided into 10 sub-districts and 53 sub-districts.
